Michael Kugler, AKA, KOOGS

Trainer/Owner/Operator of Physical Culture 101™ and CrossFit Leucadia™

Michael along with his partner Tommy Moring have given birth to the holistic playground of their dreams. Nestled just two blocks from the Pacific ocean on historic coast hwy 101 in Leucadia, Physical Culture 101 is the culmination of a life long passionate pursuit. The aim is a simple one, to create a community space where the emphasis of becoming and maintaining Strong-Healthy-Happy people could be realized. Koogs learned long ago, that his prize is in the moment. Finding comfort in metabolic chaos, and usually smiling upon the return to homeostasis, like a lion, Koogs moves only when he has to, but when he does, he goes “all-in.” Perhaps the only extrinsic motivation that might help him move quicker would be a 22oz. T-Bone steak cooked medium rare. Having said that, Koogs loves training and coaching others, and excels at designing programs for them to reach and exceed their goals. Koogs particularly thrives on helping to develop competitors because of his innate understanding of what needs to happen in “that moment.”

Whether it be planning, coaching a WOD for CrossFit Leucadia, or working one-on-one, Michael is grateful for the opportunity to serve the community, be present and MOVE!

Kaili Hunt

Kaili Hunt

Trainer

All things physical has been the major arena in Kaili’s life, and helping others maximize their performance is his passion. With a degree in Exercise Physiology and over 12 years of experience, Kaili possesses the knowledge, experience and capacity to design specific programs for individual clients and groups looking to reach their full potential.  Currently the owner of XIOFIT, Kaili has developed his own system of periodization, bringing specific progressions of physiological adaptations to his clients.

The programming is grounded in biomechanics and is based on the utilization of the 3 planes of motion, the 3 energy systems and the 3 muscle contractions.  In the first phase, the entire body is primed and prepped through compound movements of mobile stretching, balance, and coordination in order to warm the muscles and joints while increasing blood flow and heart rate. Phase 2 consists of explosive high intensity exercises focusing on speed, agility, quickness and power.  Finally in Phase 3, slower resistance training exercises are designed to build strength, muscle and function, while slowing the heart rate to close out the exercise bout.

In college, Kaili earned the football Team Captain award and was elected MVP, while also competing as a member of the track team.  Kaili loves mountain biking, sprinting, and developing new, effective and challenging training methods to push the limits of human potential.  With numerous certifications and as the past Fitness Director for Yoga Six, Kaili is dedicated to evolving his approach to fitness in order to deliver the most efficient training modalities to the masses.  The key to success is to understand the wants and needs of the client or group  through an extensive assessment protocol in order to analyze the current state of each individual and to develop a specific program design from this information.

Kaili has competed in NPC bodybuilding, is a HYLETE team captain, has been a part of several local gyms, and currently runs a successful corporate wellness program.  He loves to cook and create healthy meals through trial and error, with Indian cuisine being his favorite.  His father played for the Cleveland Browns, so unfortunately he has to be a lifelong fan.  In the future he wants to be able to implement his XIOFIT program into sports conditioning, schools, and in those weekend warriors.

Why Leucadia for Physical Culture 101?

It’s a community with a very distinctive character, that likes it’s one-of-a-kind businesses, in an ever-increasing homogenized world, that’s a rarity. We appreciate the strong sense of community Leucadia has, and that the important decisions are being made locally by people that live here who feel the impact of those decisions. It’s our home, it’s where we live, where we choose to train.

why-we-exist

Why We Exist

Physical Culture 101 is dedicated to the exploration of human potential. A sanctuary for those seeking maximum physical, mental, spiritual and social development. Quite simply put, a place where our community can call home. We believe a strong physical culture is made up of equal parts, strength, focus, intensity, sacrifice, and humility. For it is our experience that strength of health and body are inextricably linked with strength of mind. This is our ideal of what it is to be healthy and whole. This is a high-intensity, holistic playground. A laboratory where we can continually deepen our understanding of the interplay between intensity and movement. Relationships made here are strong because we have shared challenging experiences together. Ones that accept and encourage individuality as well as share the common vision, purpose, and goals of the whole. In essence, a physical culture is better able to seek and serve it’s highest purpose. For us, that boils down to: Strong. Healthy. Happy.
